Achieve your career goals on our apprentice programme
Data is changing the way we think and work at GSK. It’s crucial to the future of our business.
On our 4-year programme you’ll receive tailored on-the-job training from industry experts from day one combined with early responsibility to help you to develop and progress in this exciting career.
You’ll be working towards the BSc Data Science Level 6 Apprenticeship qualification with Anglia Ruskin University in association with Cambridge Spark (our providers may be subject to change). Learning on your apprenticeship with Anglia Ruskin University and Cambridge Spark will be delivered online through a combination of immersive teaching weeks, live, instructor-led training (delivered via high-quality, bite-sized video and audio), interactive quizzes, real-world simulated group projects and Q&A sessions.
If you are offered a role, you will have a buddy or a mentor who will help you to prepare for joining GSK and will be there to offer support and guidance throughout your apprenticeship. Apprentices are also supported by expert coaches through the learning provider partnership and gain hands-on practical experience with Cambridge Spark’s data science learning platform, EDUKATE.AI.
Working with both your line manager and programme manager we want to identify the right opportunities to help you succeed in the short term and throughout your career with us.
What will you do?
Your apprenticeship will be the Pharma Supply Chain Tech team, based at our GSK site in Ware.
In order to ensure you get the best opportunities to develop your skills, gain valuable experience and build your network, you will undergo rotations in 2 roles across the duration of your programme. Your duties might include:
- Using deep learning to create algorithms to help our manufacturing teams plan the supply flow
- Designing, building and managing the ‘big data’ infrastructure for a segment of the Pharma Supply Chain Tech team
- Using programming languages to transform raw data into insights that feed into the team’s strategy
- Learning how to analyse large-scale datasets to provide innovative solutions that answer business questions
On successful completion of the apprenticeship you’ll be qualified to take on a role as a Data Scientist, Data Engineer, Business Intelligence Specialist or another role within the Data Science field.
You’ll be excited by the thought of:
- Learning about and using the most common data analytic tools and techniques
- Building your scientific knowledge, business sense and customer relationship skills on a tailored development programme
- Combining computer science, modelling, statistics, analytics, and math skills – along with sound business sense – on a daily basis

- Working closely with business stakeholders to understand their goals and determine how data can be used to achieve those goals
- Developing your Data visualisation skills with the use of dashboard tools such as PowerBI and Spotfire
- Attending a hackathon-style bootcamp at Anglia Ruskin University’s Cambridge campus that simulates real-world environments and quickly upskills your capabilities
Benefits include:
- A competitive starting base salary of £17,500 per year, rising to £21,000 after one year
- An annual bonus
- Benefit programmes benchmarked against industry standards
- A recognition programme to reward exceptional work by you and your team
