Experience & qualifications:

You’ll need to achieve (or be on course to achieve) three A-Levels with a minimum of BBC grades. You’ll also need a minimum of five GCSEs at grades 4-9 (C or above) including English and Maths. Equivalent qualifications are accepted. Due to the sensitive nature of some of our roles, you may be required to undergo Security Clearance. Don’t worry, our Early Careers teams will talk you through this if needed.

What you’ll be doing

In security, we deal with up to 4,000 cyber-attacks every day. With over 5,500 global customers, our work has a real impact all around the world. BT’s award-winning apprenticeship programme offers you the opportunity to gain qualifications, hands-on experience as well as personal and professional development. You’ll help to ensure that the world continues to connect safely as we look to protect our services, governments, FTSE 500 companies, and our millions of customers.

You’ll be joining our security team, looking at how we deliver the very best software for our security products. You’ll get to experience the full software development lifecycle of design, develop, implement, test and support. You’ll work with real life secure software solutions, using contemporary software development languages. It’s all about human centred design, so it’s important that the security solutions we create, actually works in real life for companies both big and small.

About the apprenticeship you’ll study for

As a Security Software Engineer, you’ll study for a Level 6 apprenticeship called Digital & Technology Solutions Professional (Integrated Degree), which means that if you complete the course successfully, you’ll receive a degree from one of our university partners.

  • The degree course runs for three years and is a work-based learning degree.
  • You’ll spend a minimum of 20% of your time learning and studying. You’ll need to complete one “study work” day a week.
  • At the start of each module you’ll need to attend a module workshop, either in person or remotely, depending on the situation at that time.
