We are two sisters who moved to Cambridge on 6th September 2018. We are originally from Iraq and then moved to Jordan before arriving in Cambridge. We arrived in Cambridge with no English and no knowledge of the UK or how things like school worked. It was a really scary time for us. It is now nearly three years since we moved here and we feel passionately about helping other teenagers who find themselves in the same position we were in back in 2018. When we moved to Cambridge we were lucky that there was lots of help but all the help was from adults and what we were missing was help from teenagers who knew what our interests and our fears were. Adults are great but teenagers know teenagers. Our idea is to run a support service for teenagers who are new to the UK and who would like advice and help settling in. We will be able to hold face to face sessions for teenagers in the local area or video calls or online chat for teenagers further away. We can offer our services in English and Arabic and when the business is successful we can employ teenagers with other languages to offer support to more teenagers.
